VINTAGE rick
It
was nearly unimaginable back then: Israelis and Palestinians
shaking hands on the White House lawn. It's even harder
to imagine now. Remember September of '93 in this Vintage

What a "Wonder"-ful World
By Rick Horowitz
"I listen
to my Democrat friends, and I wonder if they're more interested in protecting
terrorists than in protecting the American people." House
Majority Leader John Boehner, speaking to reporters on Tuesday.
"I said I wonder
if they're more interested in protecting the terrorists." Boehner,
denying to reporters that he had just suggested Democrats were traitors.
Ripped
from the news
I see trees of
green,
Red roses, too,
And slime that bleeds
Red, white and blue,
And I think to myself:
What a "wonder"-ful world.
I see anxious days
With lots of fears,
With sneak attacks
And dirty smears,
And I think to myself:
What a "wonder"-ful world.
The mullahs and Osamas,
So evil and so sly,
Are friends of the Demos,
Or so Repubs imply,
I see words being used
To distort what's true,
They're really sayin',
"Hey, screw you."
I hear leaders of
The G.O.P.
Accuse the Dems
Of treachery,
And I think to myself:
What a "wonder"-ful world.
[Instrumental break, during which ordinary citizens can try to recall
just when it was that disagreeing with a president's policies became
unpatriotic. As Election Day approaches and the music swells, so does
the nastiness of attacks by panicky politicians and their worried strategists.
Now back to the microphone...]
The lull is gone for good now,
So pity those who try
To sort out the charges
And filter truth from lie,
I see ends tempting men
Who'll bend the rules,
They're really sayin',
"You're all fools."
I hear those who shout,
And feel no shame
At poison words
In freedom's name,
And I think to myself:
What a "wonder"-ful world,
Yes, I think to myself:
What a "wonder"-ful world.
