From the Vintage Archives:

Frank Did It...

By Rick Horowitz

And now,
The book is here,
And Nancy, dear,
Our game is busted.
It's filled
With nasty things,
From all those people
That you trusted.
You cared,
You gave them jobs,
They gave you thanks
In an attack way,
They talked,
They spilled the beans:
I used the Back Way.

When Ron
Was out of town,
I came around
For cozy "lunches,"
They snuck
Me up the stairs,
And though they might
Have had their hunches.
They never
Said a word
About my off-the-beaten-track way,
I'm cool,
I caused no scenes,
I used the Back Way.

Yes, there were times,
I wanted more,
To march right in
Your big front door,
Right past the press,
Right down the hall,
To stand up straight,
To stand up tall,
To show my face--
I knew my place:
I used the Back Way.

I helped,
When JFK
Went out to play,
Some called it tacky,
I sent
Some dolls his way,
But that was Jack,
It wasn't Jackie,
But you,
You turned me on,
So soft and warm,
In a shellac way,
For you,
And you alone,
I used the Back Way.

For what is a man?
What is his life?
Until he has
Old Reagan's wife?
You changed your age,
Your face, your name,
You changed it all,
You're still the same,
The record shows
The path I chose:
I used...the Back Way!
